How do I obtain a computing account? Students

Your Link Blue Account will be created automatically the day after you are admitted to the University of Kentucky. Your Link Blue Account provides access to most systems at UK, although you will need to activate your Net Blue service, in order to access the SWEB web server, and to create your storage space on the Locker system.

Activating your Link Blue Account will also setup your University Email Address, and will give you the option of forwarding your email to another address, or maintaining an Exchange mailbox on our server. For help in activating your UK Account please see the Activating Your Link Blue Account article.

You can also contact the IT Customer Service Center (218-HELP (4357) or helpdesk@uky.edu) for information.

What is a "user ID" or "username" or "LoginID"?

All three terms refer to the same thing. Your LoginID or userID is your unique identifier used to authenticate and access a computing system at the University of Kentucky. LoginID's come in different formats depending on when they were created, but they are usually based on your initials and a number added to insure uniqueness. Your LoginID is NOT the same as your UKID number, which is an eight digit number used to track your student or employee information within the SAP system.

What can I do if I have forgotten my password?

If you have forgotten your password, you can attempt to reset your password yourself in the Account Manager by using the password Self-Reset feature. If you are unable to reset your password using your security questions, you will need to have it reset to the default password. More information about resetting your password is available in the Changing Your Password article.

What is the default password?

A default password is assigned to your computer account when it is first created or when you have requested a password reset. The default password protects your account until you can create a personal password. You should not use the default password as your normal (everyday) password.

Your default password to is a lower-case u, followed by a dollar sign ($), followed by the last six digits of your UKID number (without hyphens or dashes). For example, if your UKID number is 12345678, then your default password would be u$345678. Please note that your UKID number is NOTyour Social Security Number.

What is a Security Liaison?

An official Security Liaison is a chairman or director of a college/department, a business officer, or a person appointed to be a Security Liaison by the chairman or director. Security Liaisons can request new accounts and/or password resets for persons within their college/department. To find the Security Liaisons in your department, talk to your supervisor or college/department administration.

How can I change my Password Self-Reset questions and answers?

You can change your Password Self-Reset questions and answers by logging into the UK Account Manager (https://password.uky.edu/). If you have forgotten your password and are unable to log into the Account Manager, please see the Changing Your Password article.
