Grading SafeAssignments

Accessing & Interpretting the SA Reports

SA Reports usually take 10-15 minutes to process after a student submits their material. However, during high usage times, it is possible for the SA Report process to take longer than 24 hours. The SafeAssign service is not meant to be instantaneous, and this must be taken into consideration when instructors schedule their deadlines for the SafeAssignments. Regardless of the SA Report, instructors can view a student's material immediately after the submission.

1.) You can access your SafeAssignments anytime by clicking the Course Tools menu and selecting SafeAssign from the drop-down menu.

2.) On the next page click SafeAssignments.

3. This will bring up a page that displays all of your SafeAssignments. To view student submissions click the arrow next to the assignment. Select View Submissions from the drop-down menu.

4.  From here you can view details about the student’s submissions.

a.  To view the assignment that the student submitted, click the paper icon under the Text column. You also have the option to download submissions into a zip file to read offline. Just click Download All Submissions in the upper left-hand corner.

b.   If you look under the Matching column, you can view what percentage of the student’s assignment matches text in the database.

Scores below 15 percent: These papers typical include some quotes and few common phrases or blocks of text that match other documents. These papers typically do not require further analysis, as there is no evidence of the possibility of plagiarism in these papers.

Scores between 15 percent and 40 percent: These papers include extensive quoted or paraphrased material or they may include plagiarism. These papers should be reviewed to determine if the matching content is properly attributed.

Scores over 40 percent: There is a very high probability that text in this paper was copied from other sources. These papers include quoted or paraphrased text in excess and should be reviewed for plagiarism.

c.  If you click the SA Report column, you can view a detailed report on the student’s submission.

5.  The SA Report will pop up in a new window. The Suspected Sources section of the report lists all the sources where matching text was found. If you check the box next to the source and then click the Re-Process icon, you can generate a report without matches from the selected report.

6.  The text highlighted in blue matches text in the databases. If you click the text, you can access the URL where the matching text was found.
