Don't forget to make your course available to your students when you want them to be able to access it. As long as you see the annotation [Unavailable] next to your course title, you'll know that the course is invisible to your students. Go to Control Panel --> Customization --> Properties --> area 3; change No to Yes and then Submit. To verify, click the MyBb tab (upper left) and see that [Unavailable] next to your course title has disappeared. (Don't worry - your students will only see your available course between the course duration dates. Set the start date to be the first date you want the students to be able to see the course. By default we have set the course end date to be the end of the month of the end of the semester, but you may change that.) Note that your course needs to be set to Available before your Announcements will display correctly.

- Start-of-session checklist: Have you...
√ updated your syllabus (or uploaded a new one) and removed old dates throughout the course?
√ verified that your course contents were copied over correctly from a previous course?
√ checked that all your media and other links work as intended?
√ checked your enrollments in Bb against your SAP Roster, which can accessed in myUK.
- To view your SAP Roster, select the Student Administration tab while in myUK. Once in the Student Administration tab, select Faculty Services and when that page pops up, select Class Rolls. You can search for your class and then view/download the excel sheet of your class roster.
- Please report any problems to 859-257-1300 for quickest response, or send email to helpdesk@uky.edu for other Bb issues.
- Need to add a TA or co-instructor to your course? Send all details including the Course ID and usernames to Accounts@lsv.uky.edu.
- To get your course off to a good start, before or after the first day of classes, you might send email to all students and ask them to reply, confirming a valid communications loop. Or post an announcement asking all students to send you an email. When students prefer to use a non-UK email address, you can direct them to the Personal Information link under Tools -- or under the new My Places link at the top of every Bb screen.
- If returning students tell you they cannot login, their password may well have expired. For internet security reasons, passwords expire every 90 days. Students can get immediate login and password help by calling 859-257-1300 or visiting selected computer labs around campus.
- Please note that, in some instances, Mozilla Firefox works better as a browser with Blackboard than Microsoft Explorer. Keep up with that and other known issues on the Bb Wiki Known Issues page.
- TASC strongly recommends that Blackboard instructors set major project and test deadlines for 5pm (rather than midnight or other late hours) on the due date so that if a problem occurs Information Technology Customer Service Center (IT CSC) and, if necessary, specialized Blackboard technicians, have adequate time to troubleshoot the problem. (If you make that change of due date/time, please remember that it may call for an update to your syllabus.) The CSC phone number is 257-1300. Callers who are in a testing or timed situation should alert the representative early in the call.

The old interface has definitely changed with the upgrade to Bb9; here are some quick survival tips:
- The main trick is to turn on Edit Mode (upper right) so you can complete various editing functions on the course menu itself.
- You can add a new content area by clicking on the big plus at the top of the course menu and do other edits by clicking the small gray triangle at the right of each menu item.
- Click on any menu item to get into that area, then use the large buttons at the top of the main display area to add the particulars you want.
- Once you have items or folders in place, click the tiny triangle at the right of each one to see your various editing options.
- Whenever you have questions, click the Help link you'll see at the top of every Bb screen or just contact 859-257-1300.
