Kaltura: Using Videos in Blackboard
What is Kaltura?
Kaltura is a new feature within Blackboard that allows instructors to manage media (primarily videos) within their Blackboard courses. This is not to be confused with Echo360 or Echo Captures. Kaltura is a seamless way for instructors to incorporate more media within their course, as well as manage and review student submitted media.
Below are some basic text directions for the main features of Kaltura. You can also view a Kaltura Instructional Video outlining the same information.
How to Add a Video in a Course Content Area:
1. Enter your course with the Edit Mode 'ON'.
2. Enter a Content Area and hover over Add Interactive Tool.
3. Select Course Media.
4. In new window, fill out media information. In section #2 select either Single Video. The Kaltura pop-up will appear.
5. Browse for your file. Click Upload.
6. Once returning to the Blackboard Course Media page, click 'Yes' for Add to Course Media Gallery.
7. When done, click Submit.
NOTE: In order to view your videos after uploading, turn Edit Mode 'OFF' and click on the video's title.
How to Add a Course Tool Link for Kaltura's Course Media Gallery:
1. With Edit Mode 'ON' hover over the add Course Menu buttona and select Create Tool Link.
2. For the Type, select Course Media Gallery. Provide a Name.
3. Check Make Available if you wish students to have the ability to upload media (which the Primary Instructor monitors).
4. Click Submit to make the link.
More About the Course Media Gallery:
All media associated with the particular Blackboard course will be shown in the Course Media Gallery. Students (if they have access) can click the Add Media button and upload videos. However, Primary Instructors are able to review and manage the student submitted media. By clicking "Make this Item Public in Gallery" all users in the course will see the content.
My Media in your MyBb Homepage:
1. When first logging in to Blackboard, you will notice a Tools module at the bottom left.
2. Click on My Media.
3. This page contains all media you have loaded into Blackboard (regardless of course).
4. You can Add Media, Add to Course, and Delete media from this location. *Careful!* Deleting videos from this location will also delete them from any associated courses.
