Issue:  Due to the upgrade to Blackboard 9, Users’ systems, browsers and applications may no longer be supported and/or compatible.

Solution:  Before logging in to Blackboard or calling Help Desk for support, the User should read through the Operating Systems, Browser, and Application requirement information given in the FAQs section of the Blackboard Wiki, as well as looking at the BbGo! Browser Eye Chart.

Issue:  Forum titles appear in alphabetical order instead of the order specified by the instructor.  The alphabetizing is a new feature.

Solution:  If you prefer a different order, here’s the workaround:  Precede each Forum title with a number (01, 02, 03, etc.) or a letter (A., B., C., etc.).

Issue:  Camtasia created files playing for in Internet Explorer.

Solution:  Try using Mozilla Firefox 3 instead (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/).  This appears to be a workable solution until support staff can work with Blackboard to correct the problem.

FIXED Issue:  Cannot use Participant List Wizard in TurningPoint with Blackboard 9 (as of yet, not compatible).

Solution:  User can Import a Participant List (can use list from downloaded Grade Center or from Roster in myUK) under the Participants button on the TurningPoint ribbon in PowerPoint; please make sure that list is formatted to TurningPoint's specifications (i.e. one item per column: Last Name, First Name, User ID, etc. within an excel, comma delimited, or tab delimited file).

Issue:  Clicking on the crumb trail while in a course with content takes you to a screen that makes it look like all the content is gone.

Solution:  To restore the info, click on the Content Area in question on the Course Menu.  It is recommended not to use Crumb Trails to navigate within Blackboard Course.

Issue:  Instructors are getting a course quota message.  The course quota enforcement is now in place – it is not a problem, but a feature that is being used.

Solution:  Current quota levels are 225 MB for warning and 250 MB is the limit.  To get your course quota increased, please contact the Helpdesk (257-1300; helpdesk@uky.edu) with important information (Your name, contact phone number, Course ID, etc.) – if you send an email, please put ‘Blackboard – Course Quota Increase’ in the Subject line of your email.

Issue:  External links within a course for students to register their TurningPoint devices may no longer be valid.

Solution:  Students can register their devices by selecting TurningPoint Registration Tool within the Tools page (select Tools from any course menu).  Registering their device in any Blackboard course will register it for all Blackboard courses.

Issue:  Cannot Create, Modify, or Delete Announcements.

Solution:  An Instructor must make the course available by selecting Properties under the Customization section of the Control Panel (you can set Duration Start Date to any date you wish your course to be available to your students if not immediately) before you can make any additions, modifications, deletions to the Announcements Content Area.

Issue:  Editing any text (especially special characters) in the Visual Text Editor may result in abnormal spacing, or a loss or unintended change in formatting.

Solution:  It is recommended that Users copy/paste already edited text into the Visual Text Editor to maintain the preferred result.

Issue:  Web Browsers are getting old and are not supported any more. Go to the Wiki to see the table of Web Browser information.

Solution:  Supported Browsers

Issue:  Internet Explored 8 and Timed Tests.

Solution:  Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 Important Info

Issue:  Firefox now plays MP3 audio files correctly.  Follow the work around the hear all of the material.

Solution:  Audio File Alternative

Issue:   When trying to access Web Folders in the Content Collection it gives an authentication error.

Solution:  At this time there is no way to access Web Folders; we will make an announcement in several locations (the Blackboard login page, or the Wiki home page, for example) when this issue is resolved.

Issue:  When a user tries to access Scholar a Security Information window pops up prompting the user to decide whether or not to display nonsecure items.

Solution:  The user must select that they do want to display nonsecure items (select Yes in Internet Explorer 7 and No in Internet Explorer 8) to be able to access the Scholar page.

Issue:  Users having difficulty downloading Content (PowerPoints, Media files, etc.), Grade Center, and Archived Course while using Internet Explorer. (Fixed as of 6/23/2009)

Solution:  Try using Mozilla Firefox 3 instead (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/).  This appears to be a workable solution until support staff can work with Blackboard to correct the problem.

Issue:  There is a problem turning courses on or off (making them available or unavailable).  Some Instructors are getting error messages. (Fixed as of 7/19/2009)

Solution:  Until this is resolved, please contact the Helpdesk (257-1300; helpdesk@uky.edu) with important information (Your name, contact phone number, Course ID, whether or not you want to make your course Available or Unavailable, etc.) – if you send an email, please put ‘Blackboard - Unable to make course Available/Unavailable’ in the Subject line of your email.
