The addin works in realtime with the opportunity to preview the translated text before it is sent. Currently there are 35 languages supported by this Lync 2010 addin.
Note: This Lync addin requires that you have the necessary privileges to install software on your computer. If you do not, and you feel this addin will be of benefit to you, contact your unit's IT administrator to have it installed for you.

To install the Lync Conversation Translator, click the link above and when asked, click Run on the File Download dialog box.

Using Lync Conversion Translator
After the installation completes, the addin will be ready to use in your Lync client, no reboot/restart necessary. All you have to do is start an IM conversation with the person you wish to communicate with and launch the translator by clicking the >> icon in IM window and then the Conversion Translator as shown below.

After the conversation translator loads, you new IM window will initially look as follows:
By default, it is not configured to translate to any languages, so you will need to configure it to the language you want. Click the Options button

to bring up the options menu where you can choose the language and options you want for translating.

After making your selections, click the OK button and the translation window will be ready to convert your text into the language you have chosen. The selection you save will also be remembered and will be the new default the next time you invoke the Lync Conversation Translator. Also, if english is not your native or preferred language, you can set the My Language box to reflect what language you want all received text to be translated into.

If you have the preview box checked, as indicated in the translation screen above, you can type your message in the box on the left and then click the translate button

to preview how your translated text will appear to the other user(s) in the conversation.

After previewing your message you can send it by clicking the send button.

The translated message you sent will now show up in the conversation pane of your IM window and in the original message source language in the translation pane. A simulated conversation to a french speaking collaboration partner would appear as below.
