Mail Gateways
The mail gateways were taken out of service for most campus mail in May 2010. Incoming mail
is now handled by
Forefront
and outgoing mail by Ironport.
The mail gateways handle incoming mail to uky.edu and some other campus domains and outgoing
mail from some systems. Some mail that remains on campus, but passes between mail systems, will
use the mail gateways as well. The mail gateways analyze and categorize mail. Viruses and messages
with potentially dangerous attachments are rejected. Likely spam is flagged. Mail from known spam
sources and compromised machines and mail that appears to be intentionally deceptive about its origin
is rejected. Mail that passes the inspection is sent on to the destination system were it is delivered to
the recipient or recipients.
Individuals can control their spam processing through a web page at
mg.uky.edu after logging in with their Link Blue user and password.
