Communicator Mobile (CoMo)

Communicator Mobile (CoMo)

Am I eligible for CoMo (R2)? What are the requirements?

Any phone with 128MB RAM that is currently running Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1, as well as Smart Phones and Pocket PCs, are elligible to utilize CoMo (R2). Some phone that run Java are also eligible but not heavily tested in the UK network.

I'd like to take advantage of the new features. Where can I install CoMo (R2) or MCX?

To install Communicator Mobile (CoMo) R2, click here to go to the wiki site or download directly from Microsoft.

Why does CoMo sign out while I am on a call?

With certain phones and networks, you cannot conduct calls and instant messaging conversations (data sessions) at the same time. If you have a CMDA phone (from Verizon or Sprint) or a phone that is not on a 3G network (T-Mobile, AT&T), you may notice that CoMo 2007 R2 signs out while you are on a call. CoMo will automatically sign back in once the connection is re-established if you've selected the Automatically Sign-in option. This is expected behavior on STM networks such as CDMA, 2G or EDGE.

Why does CoMo sign out when I close the CoMo window to exit?

This is happening because your device is actually overriding Windows Mobile  Smart close button. For PocketPC, the close button works as Minimize but you can override the functionality and tell the app to close instead. Some phones may come with this setting turned on by default, which can cause CoMo to exit/sign-out when you click the X button to close. We recommend you turn this feature off.

To change this behavior:

1.         Go to Start > Settings > Task Manager > Button Tab.

2.         Clear the check box that says Enable the "x" button to end running programs.

How can I enable CoMo on the Windows Mobile Home Screen?

The Communicator Mobile Home Screen plug-in is not supported with customized home screens on Windows Mobile SmartPhones such as the "Sliding Panel" Home Screen layout on Windows Mobile 6.1. If you are running a default Home Screen on your SmartPhone, you need to enable the Home Screen plug-in.

To enable the Home Screen plug-in:

1.         From CoMo, click Options > General.

2.         Select Display on Home Screen.

Why are my contacts' presence status not always up-to-date?

To improve the battery performance of your mobile device, CoMo polls the Office Communication Server (OCS) for the presence status of your contacts at timed intervals, rather than continuously. As a result, you may observe a delayed update of your contacts' presence status. At any time, you can get up-to-date presence status for a specific contact by opening their Contact Card.

Why can't I use Transfer or Hold if I am receiving a call from someone using CoMo?

The recipient of a call from a CoMo 2007 R2 user cannot use Transfer, Hold or other call-control operations. This a known Office Communications Server limitation. There are no workarounds currently available.

Why can't  I use the “call via work” feature with the contacts that I have with a Long Distance Telephone number?

UK’s voice infrastructure currently requires you to enter a Long Distance (LD) Authorization Code when placing LD calls. This requirement causes this and several other features of R2 to fail. You can use “call via work” featuer when both your device and the called number are either local or campus calls. If your device has a number outside the Lexington Local area then this feature is not for you.

How can I tell if one of my contacts is on a device that does not support IM?

The No IM status text is not displayed on CoMo 2007 R2 for contacts who are logged into a UC Desk Phone but are not available via IM. Their status will only show as Available. There are no workarounds currently available.
