Office Communicator 2007 R2

Office Communicator 2007 R2

I am new to OCS 2007 R2. What version of Communicator am I running?

To find what version of Communicator you are running:

1.        Open Communicator.

2.        Click the drop-down arrow in the upper-left corner.

3.        Select Help, and then click About Microsoft Office Communicator.

***** UK Recommends running the current version on the Wiki. If you are not running R2 software then certain referenced features may not be available to you.

I installed Office Communicator 2007 R2, and now when I sign in I get an error that says, "Cannot sign into Communicator because this sign-in address was not found..."

To resolve this issue:

1.        Open Communicator.

2.        Click the drop-down arrow in the upper left-hand corner.

3.        Select Tools > Options.

4.        On the Personal settings dialog box, click Advanced.

5.        In the Advanced Connection Settings dialog box, select Automatic configuration and click OK.

6.        If you still cannot connect, please contact eh UK Helpdesk or your departmental IT support group.

Which audio device(s) should I use to place/receive calls through Communicator?

There are several audio devices that have been certified for use with UC:

Network Telephones

·          CX700 Polycom Desk Phone

USB Telephones

·          CX200 Polycom

·          CX100 Polycom Speakerphone

Headsets – USB or Analog

·          Plantronics HW251N-USB

Webcams

·          Logitech Quickcam Communicate Deluxe (or better model)

·          Logitech QuickCam Deluxe for Notebooks

·          Microsoft LifeCam product line

These devices provide the best possible audio/video experience. We do not recommend using the on-board speaker/microphone built into your PC/laptop, or devices that are not on the approved list provided above. Devices that have not been certified may not be supported by the Helpdesk and may not give you a good audio/video experience.

Communicator Desktop Sharing - cursor artifacts

There is currently a known issue with Desktop Sharing in Communicator with cursor artifacts. The sending side looks normal, but the receiving side may see a grid surrounding the cursor in the shared window.

Can I change my ringtone from Communicator?

No, Communicator does not have the ability to change your ringtone. Your ringtone can only be modified from a UC Desk Phone. Your CX700 Desk Phone has an options menu (looks like a gear) on the left side of the display. Ringtones are found there. No additional ringtones can be uploaded/added, sorry J.

I have more than one USB audio device connected to my PC/laptop. Which device will be the default for placing/receiving calls, and how do I change it?

To set up or change the default USB audio device:

1.        Open Communicator 2007 R2.

2.        Click on the drop-down arrow next to the square blue icon in the upper left-hand corner of the window and select Tools > Set Up Audio and Video.

3.        On the Handset or Headset screen, select the audio device from the drop-down menu that you want as the default device, and click Next.

4.        On the Speakerphone/Microphone or Speakerphone screen, select the audio device from the drop-down menu that you want as the secondary device, and click Next.

5.        On the Sounds screen, select the audio device that you would like for your PC/laptop sounds (like music and ringtone) - we recommend either a headset or your built-in PC/laptop speakers.

6.        Click Finish.

I have more than one USB audio device connected to my PC/laptop. How do I switch between them when I receive a call?

When more than one USB audio device is connected to your PC/laptop, one will be the default device for placing/receiving calls (see the previous question in this FAQ), and one will be a secondary device. To switch between your devices:

1.        Answer the incoming call on your default device by clicking on the pop-up.

2.        Once the call is established, in the Call window, there will be a button in the center of the window to turn your speakerphone on/off depending on how you have your devices configured. Click on that button to switch between your devices.  To identify the button, hover your mouse over the button to reveal the text. It should say either Turn off Speakerphone or Turn on Speakerphone.

NOTE: If you attempt to switch devices by unplugging one, Communicator will automatically place your call on Hold. To resume the call on the device that is still connected, click on the "Resume Call" bar in the Call Window.
