Adobe® Acrobat® X Pro FAQ for Adobe Creative Suite® customers

Is Acrobat 9 Pro included in Creative Suite 5?

Yes, Acrobat 9 Pro is included in Creative Suite 5 Design Standard, Design Premium, Web Premium, and Master Collection.

Can I try Acrobat 9 Pro with my Creative Suite software trial?

Acrobat 9 Pro is not available as a trial and is not included in the trial version of any suite editions. However, the full version of Acrobat 9 Pro is included in the full version of Master Collection, Design Premium, Design Standard, and Web Premium available for purchase.

Will the next version of Acrobat Pro be included with the applicable Creative Suite edition once it ships?

Acrobat X Pro, the latest version of Acrobat for professionals, will be included in the next version of Creative Suite once it is available. Acrobat 9 Pro will continue to be offered in Creative Suite 5 editions.

Why isn’t Acrobat X Pro being added to Creative Suite 5 at the same time it is being released as an individual product?

Our software development cycles do not always align to allow us to update entire Creative Suite editions when a single product release becomes available.

When will Creative Suite editions that include Acrobat X Pro be available?

Acrobat X Pro will be included in the next release of Creative Suite Design Standard, Design Premium, Web Premium, and Master Collection. We do not have a date for the next Creative Suite release yet, but will update Adobe.com when we do. Creative Suite customers who purchased Adobe Upgrade Plan (or a Gold or Platinum support plan) will be notified automatically when the update is available.

What are the options for Creative Suite 5 users who want to upgrade to Acrobat X Pro before the next release of Creative Suite?

Creative Suite 5 customers who wish to upgrade to Acrobat X Pro will need to wait until the next release of Creative Suite. Because suite editions are designed to create value through the tight integration of previously disparate software components and to provide cost savings for purchasing the components together, the components cannot be upgraded on an individual basis. However, if you previously purchased Acrobat 9, 8, or 7 (Standard or Pro) as a standalone product and have a serial number, you can upgrade to Acrobat X.

I owned a standalone version of Acrobat before purchasing Creative Suite. Will I be able to upgrade to Acrobat X?

If you own a license for Acrobat 9, 8, or 7 (Pro or Standard), you can upgrade to Acrobat X. Please note that Acrobat X will be included in the next release of Creative Suite.

I am a Creative Suite customer with Upgrade Plan — am I entitled to Acrobat X Pro when it ships?

You will receive the updated version of Creative Suite that includes Acrobat X when it ships. Unfortunately, we do not have a date for that version release. In the meantime, if you want to purchase Acrobat X Pro, you can purchase it as a full version product.

I own Creative Suite 5 and would like to use Acrobat X Pro. What are my purchase options?

If you are interested in upgrading to Acrobat X Pro prior to a future Creative Suite release, you can purchase Acrobat X Pro as a standalone product. Alternatively, if you own a valid license of Acrobat 9, 8, or 7 (Pro or Standard) as a standalone product, you can upgrade with that serial number.

Does Acrobat X Pro work with Creative Suite 5? Are there any issues in terms of compatibility (Adobe Bridge integration, color management settings, PDF profiles in Adobe InDesign®, and so on)?

Acrobat X Pro works with Creative Suite 5 to support and synchronize color settings as well as PDF settings/job options (it does not support features that are not supported by Distiller®, such as PDF/X-4). Acrobat X Pro and Creative Suite 5 both use the same swatch format and include the same default spot color set, so the same color palettes can be used for preflighting. However, Acrobat X Pro does not support Bridge or ExtendScript. It also no longer supports converting InDesign documents to PDF from within Acrobat.

What new features does Acrobat X Pro contain for creative and print professionals?

If you are a creative or print professional, you will be excited about the many new features in Acrobat X Pro, including customization options for PDF Portfolios, the Action Wizard, the unified tool pane for commenting, and the Quick Tools area. With new PDF Portfolio customization options, you can create and share custom layouts and themes to develop PDF Portfolios with consistent branding and presentation. With the Action Wizard, you can automate and standardize multistep tasks for maximum productivity. Improved collaboration features allow viewing and tracking of comments in a single, unified pane. And, you can customize the Quick Tools area to have fast access to the tools you use the most.

Acrobat X Pro also supports the latest versions of the PDF/X-4 and X-5 standards, allowing you to keep up to date with industry standards. And with the improved Preflight tool, you can process your jobs even faster.
