Wiki Pages: Obtain and Install Microsoft Office 2007

Introduction

This document gives instructions on obtaining and installing Microsoft Office 2007. Review this documentation carefully before attempting to install the software.

To obtain a product key for installation and usage of Office 2007, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Faculty & Staff: You must be eligible to download and install Microsoft software under the UK Campus Agreement. The UK Microsoft Campus Agreement web site (http://www.uky.edu/UKSoftware/) lists persons who are and are not eligible.
  • Students: You must be at least a part time Student.
  • You must have a valid, and activated, UK account. For more information, please see the document on activating your computing account.
Obtaining Office 2007

To install the Microsoft Office 2007 program on a computer, you will need the Office 2007 installation CD. This CD can be created if your computer has a recordable CD drive (CD-R or CD-RW). Please see the "Downloading Office 2007 ISO & Product Key" and "Burning the Office ISO Image" sections below for instructions.

Downloading Office 2007 ISO & Product Key

Staff
  1. Open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator) and go to the UK Download web site (http://download.uky.edu).
  2. In the Login box, enter your link blue userID (no AD\ or MC\) and password and then click on Login. The Login box will display your name when you have successfully logged in to the Download site.
  3. Under Operating Systems, click on the 'Windows XP, Windows Vista' link. Categories of software will be displayed. Click on the 'Microsoft Campus Agreement' link.
  4. A list of software for that category will be displayed. Locate 'Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise' from the list. Click on the 'Product Key Required! Click Here link'. This will send the product key to your University Email Address.
  5. Click on the download link to the right of Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise. You will be asked whether you wish to open or save the file. Click Save and select Desktop as the save-to location. Click Save. This will download the Office 2007 Enterprise ISO file to your computer.
  6. Allow the file to completely download -- it will take several minutes for high-speed Internet connections or several hours for dial-up Internet connections. Once the file has downloaded to your computer, logout of the UK Download site by clicking on the Logout button.

Students

Please Note: Students are allowed to download one Microsoft Office Suite.  They can download either Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows, or Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac.  Once they have chosen a download that is the only version of the product that we can provide them with.

  1. Open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator) and go to the MS Download web site (http://iweb.uky.edu/MSDownload/).
  2. In the Login box, enter your link blue userID (Note: MC users must add MC\ in front of their username)
  3. Enter your password where prompted.
  4. Click the 'Login' button to proceed.
  5. Click on Office Suites.
  6. Click the Green Download button next to Office 2007 for Windows.
  7. You will be prompted to review and agree to a user agreement before you can download the Office Suite.  Please review the agreement, download a copy for your records if desired, check the 'I accept the terms and conditions in the above agreement' checkbox, and then click the 'Continue' button.
  8. Click the download button to start the download.
  9. You will be asked whether you wish to open or save the file. Click Save and select Desktop as the save-to location. Click Save. This will download the Office 2007 Enterprise ISO file to your computer.
  10. Allow the file to completely download -- it will take several minutes for high-speed Internet connections or several hours for dial-up Internet connections. Once the file has downloaded to your computer, logout of the UK Download site by clicking on the Logout button.
Burning the Office ISO Image

You will need to burn the ISO image to a CD using your CD or DVD recording drive. The following article contains more information on how to Record a CD or DVD image to disc.

Once you have burned the Office ISO image to a CD, you may delete the ISO file.

Installing Office 2007

Before beginning installation, ensure that your computer has a connection to the Internet.

  1. Insert the Office Installation CD into your CD drive. After a few seconds of copying installation files to your computer, the installation program will begin.
  2. Faculty & Staff will be prompted Office product key. Type in the product key you obtained from the UK Download web site. Use only 5 characters per field box, and 25 characters total. When you are finished, click on the Next button.
  3. Students will not need to enter a product key as their version has been preconfigured to enter the key automatically.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  5. After starting installation, a progress bar will be displayed showing that Microsoft Office is currently being installed on your computer. The time to complete the install will vary based on your computer's speed.
  6. The installer will inform you when the setup is complete.
  7. If you have not previously done so, you will be prompted if you wish to receive Microsoft Updates instead of normal Windows Updates.  Microsoft Updates include updates for Office and other Microsoft Applications whenever your computer checks for OS updates.  Using Microsoft Update is highly recommended.
  8. If there are any updates listed, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install them.
